Homemade Bread and Cheese Display

Well, the cheese isn’t homemade, but the bread is, and I think I made pretty cute signs to tell people what each thing was. It was for a potluck wedding we went to earlier this year. And we’ve heard that the bread was very popular among the French guests, who promptly went back to France and bragged to their relatives that there are artisan breadmakers in the U.S.!

The Winters pool made a cool sign to try to attract more people to the public pool. So I had to stop to take a picture of it.

The Hyatt in Monterey has these awesome planters. Just as soon as I figure out how one would drill out a hollow spot in a stump I plan to make one or two of my own.

Winters Outdoor Quilt Show

In June, our little cowpoke town had an outdoor quilt show, and it was apparently rather successful because there will a zillion quilts. I didn’t even see them all, regretfully. But I made a point of seeing the Gee’s Bend ones they brought in, and the “antique” ones they had in the firehouse. They had to move the firetrucks out to make room for them all. Its been well over a year since I’ve blogged. How can I possibly expect to have any readers if I go so long without new posts?! I guess I’ve had some good excuses, but not anymore! And I do have some interesting pictures to post so I’m going to start doing that now, even if the pictures are not of the quality I’d like (stupid Nikon camera). So, if anyone in the world is actually reading this, thank you. To express my thanks, I’ll send you something cool in the mail if you leave me your address in the comments. The Dog Park

We used to take our dog Buckley to the playground of the elementary
school next door to our house, until it closed all its gates to the
public. Then we took him to the little league field 2 blocks down, along
with a lot of other dog owners and it became the unofficial dog
park of Winters. Then they remodeled the dog park and now it has
a new sign:

I guess I shouldn’t complain because within a 10 minute walk from our
house is this:

But I know that someday this field will be developed into more homes,
and right now all the dog owners like me are just trespassing on who
knows whose land, and it would be great if there was a legitimate
off-leash place for dogs to exercise in Winters. Ahem.

The W in San Diego

My co-worker Sherry and I stayed at the W in San Diego this week,
because they offer the state rate! Can you believe it?! The unfortunate
part is that we were so busy prepping for our field tour the next day
that we didn?t have a spare moment to enjoy the W’s amenities, including the “beach” (see pics below), the fancy bar(s), or even just relaxing in our own room, which was wonderful itself.
